Cookie Policy

The API Guys LLC d/b/a TriviaTies Last Updated: April 3, 2026

What Are Cookies and Local Storage

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. Local storage is a browser mechanism that allows websites to store data on your device. Both are used to maintain your session and protect against security threats.

How We Store Data in Your Browser

Authentication Tokens (Local Storage)

TriviaTies stores authentication tokens in your browser’s local storage to maintain your logged-in session.

Cookies

The Service sets a small number of cookies for server-side functionality:

Cookie NamePurposeTypeDuration
sessionidServer-side session identifierStrictly necessary, HttpOnly14 days
csrftokenCross-site request forgery protectionStrictly necessary, HttpOnly12 months

Additionally, our error monitoring service (Sentry) may set minimal diagnostic data in your browser to support error tracking and performance monitoring.

Analytics Cookies

The Service uses Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the platform is used and to improve the Service. GA4 sets the following cookies:

Cookie NamePurposeTypeDuration
_gaDistinguishes unique users for Google AnalyticsAnalytics2 years
_gidDistinguishes unique users within a 24-hour periodAnalytics24 hours
_ga_<container-id>Maintains session state for Google AnalyticsAnalytics2 years

These cookies collect aggregated, non-personally-identifiable data such as pages visited, session duration, referral source, device type, and geographic region (derived from a truncated IP address). We do not transmit names, email addresses, user IDs, or any other personally identifiable information to Google via these cookies.

What We Do NOT Use

TriviaTies does not use:

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Social media tracking cookies
  • Third-party marketing cookies
  • Fingerprinting or cross-site tracking technologies

The cookies described above fall into two categories:

  • Strictly necessary cookies (sessionid, csrftoken, authentication tokens): These are required for the Service to function. No consent is needed.
  • Analytics cookies (_ga, _gid, _ga_<container-id>): These are non-essential. Where required by applicable law (e.g., the EU ePrivacy Directive, GDPR, or similar regulations), we obtain your consent before setting analytics cookies. Google Tag Manager operates in “denied” mode by default for analytics storage until you grant consent through our cookie consent controls.

You can withdraw your consent or change your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie consent controls on the platform, or by managing cookies in your browser settings.

Managing Browser Storage

You can manage cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies and clear local storage (typically under “Site Data” or “Storage”). However, clearing authentication data will log you out of the Service.

Instructions for managing site data in common browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and site data

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy if we add new cookies or change how existing cookies are used. Updates will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date above.
